Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is Ivar?
Ivar is an advanced Discord bot designed for BDSM and kink communities. It provides a wide range of features for enhancing roleplay, managing dynamics, and maintaining a safe, consensual environment. Ivar was created by DIVINITY in November 2022.
Who can use Ivar?
Ivar is intended for use by adults aged 18+ in BDSM/kink-focused Discord servers. The bot is not suitable for minors or non-kink communities. Server owners are responsible for ensuring Ivar is used in compliance with Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
How do I add Ivar to my server?
To invite Ivar to your Discord server, you must have the "Manage Server" permission. Click the invite link provided by DIVINITY or on the Ivar website, select your server from the dropdown menu, and authorize the bot.
Is Ivar free to use?
Ivar offers a free version with core features, as well as a Premium "Kinkster" version that unlocks advanced features and customization options. Visit our Patreon page for information on Premium subscriptions.
Setup & Configuration
What permissions does Ivar need?
For full functionality, Ivar requires the "Administrator" permission. This allows the bot to manage roles, channels, messages, and more. Without admin permissions, many features will not work correctly.
How do I set up Ivar?
After inviting Ivar to your server, use the /manage setup command to perform the initial configuration. This includes setting dominant/submissive roles, moderator channels, and other key settings. Additional features can be enabled and customized using the /manage features command.
Why isn't Ivar responding to commands?
There are a few common reasons for unresponsive commands: Ivar lacks the necessary permissions for the command. Check that Ivar's role has admin permissions. The command requires initial setup that hasn't been completed. Run /manage setup first. The command is on cooldown to prevent spam. Wait a few seconds and try again. There is an ongoing outage or issue. Check our Support Server for announcements or status updates.
If none of the above apply, try re-inviting Ivar to your server. If issues persist, contact support.
How do I configure Ivar's roles?
Use /configure roles to set up roles for Ivar to manage. The key roles are: Dominant: Users who can punish submissives and control certain features Submissive: Users subject to punishments and certain restrictions Moderator: Users who can manage server settings and use moderation commands Prisoner: Users who have been placed in jail or gagged Blocked: Users who are blocked from using certain NSFW features
I'm getting errors when assigning roles. What do I do?
Ensure Ivar's role is positioned above the roles it needs to manage in your server's role hierarchy. If Ivar's role is below the role you want it to assign/remove, you will get a permissions error. Move Ivar's role to the top to resolve this.
Can I customize the prefix or command names?
Not currently. Ivar uses Discord's slash command system, which provides a consistent and secure interface for all servers. We may add customization options for command names in a future update.
Features & Usage
What features does Ivar offer?
Ivar includes a wide range of features for BDSM roleplay and server management: Dynamic ownership and collaring system Safewords and revoked consent management Extensive punishment options (gags, jails, nudges, chastity, etc.) Scene/Play/Private Chat channels that activate submission mode User profiles with kinks, limits, D/s type, bio, and more Confessions system for anonymous sharing Leaderboards and leveling to engage the community Moderation tools like logging, locks, bans, kicks, etc.
Use /help to view a full list of commands and features.
How does the dynamic system work?
Ivar's dynamic system allows dominants to claim ownership of submissives. Submissives who are owned cannot be taken by other dominants without first abandoning or releasing them. The bot enforces a strict one-to-one ownership structure.
Dominants use the /dominate command to claim a submissive, and /disown or /abandon to release them. Submissives use /submit to accept an ownership request and /divorce to withdraw from the dynamic.
What happens when a safeword is used?
When a user enters their safeword using the /safety safeword command, all ongoing punishments and restrictions are immediately lifted, and the user is removed from any dynamic they are in.
The safeword event is logged, and a message is sent to the designated moderator channel. Moderators should check in with the user to ensure they are okay and take any necessary action.
How do I earn points and level up?
Ivar has an extensive leveling system that rewards users for participating in the community. You earn points and level up by: Sending messages in non-spam channels Using Ivar's RP commands and features Submitting confessions and feedback Voting and reacting to others' messages
Use /stats to view your current level, points total, and leaderboard position.
Can I disable certain features?
Yes, server owners and administrators can enable/disable individual features using /manage features. This allows you to customize Ivar to fit your community's needs and preferences.
Certain powerful features like safewords cannot be disabled.
Moderation & Safety
What moderation tools does Ivar offer?
Ivar includes a suite of moderation commands for managing your server: /lock and /unlock to control access to channels /kick, /ban, and /unban to remove problematic users /mute and /unmute to silence users temporarily /purge to mass-delete messages /slow to add slowmode to channels /logs to view audit logs of all moderator actions
How do I set up the moderator channel?
Use /manage setup and select "Moderator Channel" to designate a channel for Ivar's moderation logs and alerts. This should be a staff-only channel that regular users cannot see.
The moderator channel receives notifications for events like safeword usage, ban evasion attempts, bot errors, and more.
What happens if a user is blacklisted?
Blacklisted users are unable to use any of Ivar's commands or features, even if they have the required roles. Blacklisting is reserved for users who violate the bot's rules or abuse its features.
If you are blacklisted and believe this is an error, you can appeal the decision by opening a ticket in our Support Server. Our staff will review your case and determine if the blacklist should be lifted.
